About the studio

Meet Ms Liping

Her teaching philosophy

Learn one, understand many.

Ms Liping’s teaching is rooted in this Chinese saying, which means that one concept, truly understood, opens many doors. Students start from a single technique or musical concept and learn to apply it more widely, linking theory, listening, playing and expression into a complete understanding. Practice goes beyond drilling the fingers, and each lesson builds a grasp of the logic beneath the music.

In every lesson

Expressive playing, expert guidance

01

Musicality and interpretation

Exams and competitions matter, and the joy of playing comes first. Real music is expressive and moves the people who hear it. When students understand what they are playing, practice becomes curiosity, and they learn to play from the heart.

02

Precise diagnosis, sound technique

Drawing on her years of teaching, Ms Liping can diagnose a student’s playing with precision. Having guided many students, she quickly sees where a difficulty begins and which part needs correcting or refining. Each lesson then targets exactly that point, so every correction builds sound technique that carries into the next piece.

For every student

Every student has potential

In Ms Liping’s words, every child can learn to play the piano, but with the right guidance, they can achieve so much more. Learning to play is like nurturing a bonsai. It takes a skilled hand to guide its growth at the right moments, and the patience to let it mature. Over time, each student’s unique potential unfolds into a work of art.

The teacher

Liping He

Ms Liping grew up surrounded by the arts. Her father, a university literature professor, filled their home with poetry, stories, and conversation about all forms of creative expression. Among them all, it was the piano that captured her heart. For young Liping, it was like a beacon lighting the way ahead, and she knew early that her passion lay in music.

That passion led her to study piano in the Music Department of Xihua University, where she graduated in 1994. She then went on to the Sichuan Conservatory of Music, where she undertook advanced study in the Piano Department from 1996 to 1999 under Professor Wang Yan, then Head of the Department and a former student of Professor Dan Zhaoyi. After completing her studies, Ms Liping taught piano independently, and her students’ strong results soon led to an invitation to join the piano faculty at the Shenzhen Dan Zhaoyi Piano Art Institute. Professor Dan, a Lifetime Honorary Professor at the school, is widely known as China’s “gold-medal coach”. His students include Yundi Li, First Prize winner of the International Chopin Piano Competition; Sa Chen, now a juror of the same competition; and Haochen Zhang, Gold Medallist at the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. During her six years at the school, working alongside Professor Dan, Ms Liping further refined her teaching skills and developed a distinctive approach of her own.

Throughout her teaching career in China, Ms Liping guided students to outstanding achievements, including Third Prize at the Guangdong Star Piano Competition, Distinctions in national piano examinations, and Third Prize at the 2008 Artist International Music Competition in Hong Kong.

Today, Ms Liping brings more than two decades of teaching experience to Liping Piano Studio. As an accredited professional member of the Queensland Music Teachers’ Association (QMTA), she teaches children, teens, and adult learners on a Yamaha grand piano. Whether her students are preparing for examinations, competitions, or university-level music studies, or simply playing for pleasure, she shares with each of them the same love of the piano that first lit her way.
